Getting started with Home Beer Brewing

We've decided we're going to start making some beer our damn selves. I'm a good cook, so hopefully that knowledge will apply to brewing tasty beer.

So far in the research I've discovered that cleanliness is a huge factor. Any small contaminants could majorly affect the end result.

I've also discovered that there are really two schools on brewing. Classic, die hard brewers use barley, while newbies use extracts. I think we'll start with extracts, until we get the hang of brewing. Then we'll probably start using whole grain.

Here's a great resource if you're interested in home brewing. The book's a bit long, but definitely worth the read. I haven't quite finished it yet, but I plan to within the next week or so.

We'll be frequenting our local Asheville Brewers Supply store in Asheville. It's up on Merrimon, and the guy seems pretty nice.
