Steel Reserve High Gravity by The Steel Brewing Company
My brother prefers Steel Reserve over Pabst Blue Ribbon, and I think he’s crazy. Sure, PBR ain’t the best, but it’s got its place in the world, just like any decent Adam Sandler movie.
Steel Reserve is a beer that I will call a pure utility beer; it has a job to do, and that’s what it’s going to do.
It honestly tastes like pretty much nothing. I used to think Coors Light won the prize for being the most tasteless beer, but I’ve changed my tune now. Steel Reserve, so far you’re the new winner of the Most Tasteless Beer prize. Congratulations!
Overall, it’s not really that bad, but it’s not really very good either.
Steel Reserve, in my opinion, was born for the can. So just go ahead and drink it directly from the can, don’t pour it, and by all means, don’t think much about it. The tagline should’ve been:
> Steel Reserve: It’ll do.
A picture is worth a thousand words, so here’s my go-get-em for Steel Reserve!

To be clear, Jim and I agree on the greatness of SR. Let me point out the fact that it’s tasteless (as mentioned in the article), the price point is fantastic – a key reason for my passion, it’s fantastic on a warm day when taste just gets in the way, and the alcohol percentage is great. Please consumers, friends, lovers, enemies, do the math of alcohol content vs price vs taste…if you do the math, SR is a w1nner. When deciding on whether you should purchase or not, please read the advertising. It doesn’t lie, not like those dirty people who live in our hollow earth. Or you can drink paint thinner like me. Mmmmm….

There is no better bang for the buck than the Steel Reserve. This goes without question. I am with Rifter here… SR is an absolutely mind-boggingly fantastic cheap beer. No other cheap beer compares to Steel Reserve. Nothing.

Steel Reserve has to be one of the worst beers of all time. Sure if you wan’t to get plastered it’s the way to go, but for a true beer connoisseur it falls at the very bottom of the beer chain hands down.

joel, if u r a beer connoisseur than why are you even here? I AM a beer connoisseur but I am also not a beer snob. SR is the best, cheapest beer buzz on the market, period. Nothing packs a buzz like SR and thats what it is all about. Any thoughts about taste or other are pointless. Great buzz man, like no other. Utilitarian beer.

Yeah, steel reserve is pretty much the best beer ever for getting drunk. Which, if I recall, was the purpose of drinking alcohol. I also don’t mind the taste at all.

I love Steel Reserve when it’s icy, ICY cold — and from the can, not the bottle. I put it in the freezer to chill for a 45 minutes… then serve it with lime wedges. Mmm… Tasty beer-buzz!

I love this beer, even though I get a lot of flak about it! I am allergic to ordinary beer and for some reason this is the only beer I don’t have reactions to. David, I tried your freezer/lime juice method and there’s no going back now! Jim, you described this beer perfectly.
